place called home

Just three weeks after getting back from Sweden I have to go back there again for a funeral. It feels strange. Going to a funeral feels strange, because I've only been to two. Going to Sweden feels strange since I just came home, and my long vacation was my first trip back since I got here, almost a year ago. Leaving Cork feels strange since I have a new found love for the place since I came back.

Iv'e started playing world of warcraft, and Olof will take up playing again as soon as he buys a new pc, so soon we are going to be a happy little nerd family.

Otherwise not much is going on at Vicarstreet. We're all working and chillin' and eating good food and bein' lazy.

A Holiday Worthy of a Squirrel

Since none of the girls are blogging about their adventures in Cork I guess I'll have to fill up the space with my rambling about Sweden.

Spending Valborg in Uppsala was great and well worth all the trouble I had getting there (from now on Airport bitches and SJ are the new objects of my undying hatred). I met up with Jojo and Jens II early in the morning, ate breakfast with some catholic people and watched the students get wet as they conquered the river on homemade, quite unstable, rafts. And no Valborg would be Valborg without obscene amounts of alcohol, so the first can was opened at 9 am and the last drop was drunk at about 2 am. Considering the fact that my preparation for this holiday included no food, no sleep and (of course) a bug I am a bit impressed that I actually lived to see the 1st of May. Anyway, the rest of the day we lay on a blanket in the sun and enjoyed the mood, the Smirnoff Ice and life in general. We also made an attempt to do some barbeque and hanged out with loads of people that I knew way back when...

The 1st Jojo and I mostly spent on a blanket by the river and soaked up the sunlight - too bad that I am a redheaded, pale person with freckles and nowadays a bright red nose. Note to self: always use sunscreen.

Since I had to leave Jojo at the train station way to soon I spent the rest of my time in Uppsala with Jens. Friday was a day filled with Final Fantasy VIII and in the evening it was time to go to the train station myself for a 13 hour trip to Luleå.

Now I've been here for not more than 1,5 days but I have already got 4 mosquito bites. I have also been used as a household slave and therefore spent the day sewing, ironing, baking, cooking and cleaning (anybody who knows me knows that that's just wrong). Right now the only good thing about this place that God forgot is that I have been signed up as a puppy nanny to a 12 weeks old Schnauzer girl that mom and I will pick up on Tuesday. That is a quite good reason to stay positive (:

Over and out from Sweden!

One time, at band camp

Okay, so there was this party, like, and there were, like, loads of people and loads to drink and loads of fun, really cool, like. Then, the day after Johan came to town and he was kind of mad but cool anyway. And then, we all ate American breakfast in Deer Park and watched Police Academy and it was soooo cool, like!

Anyway.

In a few hours I am going back to Sweden and I won't be back until June. It feels a bit strange, but I am sure that it will be good for me to get away a bit (even if it means living with my parents for a month). First stop will be in Uppsala, where I'll celebrate Valborgsmässoafton (Swedish holiday who advocate drinking and pyromania) with Jojo, Jens and Jens. I guess this means that my countdown is almost over for now (:

Both the End and the Beginning

I never told the end to my story about the Adventurous Trip to Sweden. It was an interesting weekend. Tegan and Sara was awesome (I could go on forever about that concert), spending an evening watching dyke movies was educational, song contest finale and touring Gothenburg with my sister was nice indeed and of course hanging out with Mia for the first time in forever was great.

But the most interesting thing for me was that I came to Lund kind of heartbroken and nervous and left Lund as a confused but happy person. A rather un-single person. I like that. I like her. A lot.

So now I am counting the days (25) until I'll be back in Sweden and actually get to see her again. It is rather hard sometimes, and right now I really wish there weren't a bloody sea and two (rather unnecessary) countries separating us. But I knew what I signed up for and even though it might sound a bit pathetic, she is worth the wait.

The Squirrel's Adventurous trip to Sweden

After a very nice Tuesday evening at the Oval I dragged myself up at 05:30 (the armpit of time), waited for a delayed taxi, traveled on delayed planes but eventually arrived in Gothenburg. Spent the night at my sister's and her boyfriend's apartment. Seriously, computer nerds are special, and if the nerd in question also has money enough to fulfill his dreams… quite scary, I assure you. We watched the porn movie 300 with warriors in Speedos, a transvestite Persian king and just a lot of naked skin in general. I’m sure that any straight gal or gay guy would love that movie.

Today I have once again got up at 05:30 (the armpit of time) to hop a train to Lund and Jojo and you know what? We’re going to see Tegan and Sara tonight! Happy squirrel! Happy squirrel! Extremely happy squirrel!

I haven’t quite adapted to being in Sweden yet, I’m just not used to people actually understanding what I’m saying so I guess I’ll be receiving loads of funny looks the next few days…

By the way, it didn’t take long for Jojo to discover the wonder that is Lumines and now she (too) has developed an addiction. PSP is the shit.
